While the University of Louisville men’s basketball team toils over foot injuries, the football team’s injury list is of a higher concern – at the knee to be exact. In just three days three separate knee injuries have sidelined starters for the Cards, two of which occurred during Saturday’s 69-14 blowout against the University of North Carolina.
The first injury occurred before game day when junior linebacker Abe Brown sprained his medial collateral ligament (MCL) during Thursday’s practice. Petrino said that Brown was leaping in the air for an interception and collided with fellow linebacker Nate Harris. Petrino said Brown is expected to be out for a few weeks, meaning he’ll miss the upcoming game against conference rival West Virginia on Saturday.
Petrino said the injury was unfortunate, but that Brown will likely only need a few weeks off before returning. Prior to the game against UNC Brown was the third leading tackler on the Cards defense. Sophomore Malik Jackson replaced Brown for his first career start and will likely do so again against WVU.
