Dr. Margaret D’Silva, a professor in the department of communication, was awarded the university’s Presidential Multicultural Teaching Award last month.

The award goes to a faculty member who has demonstrated teaching strategies and practices that encourage and integrate students from diverse global backgrounds. Nominees’ teaching and course content stand out because they take into account language and disabilities, as well as cultural and social diversity.

D’Silva received her Ph.D. in communication from the University of Kentucky in 1990. Her research areas include public communication campaigns, children and television and global mass media.

There were 10 nominations for the multicultural teaching award this year.

D’Silva also serves on The Louisville Cardinal’s Board of Directors.
