What you need to know if you’re new to U of L

As an incoming freshman at U of L, there are many ways to get involved in the sports department. From participating to watching to supporting, there is always something you can do. And believe me, you will want to get involved.

The football team is defending their C-USA Conference championship. Again. The basketball team, under direction from new coach Rick Pitino, is coming off an NIT appearance, and there’s so much more. Unfortunately, student basketball tickets have already sold out. But at press time, there were a few more student football tickets available. Visit the ticket office, located on the third floor of the Student Activity Center, to purchase tickets. Student tickets are $42.00, and each student can purchase one guest ticket for $54.00.

You know that little red Cardinal ID card you have (or will have)? It does much more than identify who you are. It’s your ticket to get into any sporting event at U of L for free! Other than men’s basketball and football, that is. Sorry.

The Cardinal baseball team is coming off their most successful season in school history. All events at Cardinal Park, including track, softball, and soccer, offer free admission with your Cardinal Card. Women’s basketball and volleyball are also free with your Cardinal Card along with tennis at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

For those active students that actually want to participate in sports at U of L, intramural sports is the answer. There are over 20 different sporting events offered by the university, including track, flag football, softball, tennis, basketball, and floor hockey. You can play as an individual or bring enough friends to form your own team. Individual play is free; team play ranges from $2-$35 depending on the event. Seth with Intramural Sports says that there will be signs up all over campus for each event; frankly, “you’ll get tired of seeing them.” If the signs aren’t enough, you can call Seth at 852-6707, or hop online at www.louisville.edu/student/life/intramurals.

The intramural sports department also has a few job positions available, like officiating events. Visit the intramural sports office, located on the first floor of the Student Activities Center, for more information.

Trust me, as a recent incoming freshman myself, there’s so much action at U of L, it’s hard to catch it all. But being active in campus life is what college is all about, right? We know it’s not about the work….it’s about the sports!!
