Have you ever seen something and wondered what it meant? This week many students have been curious as to what THIRSTY? means. The mysterious way the chalk lettering showed up on the grounds with no explanation has caused much debate on campus. The Cardinal set out to find exactly what it meas.
THIRSTY? is a weekly event to learn more about God and what kind of role He can play in your life. Led by college students from local churches, THIRSTY? is an addition to the other campus groups, such as Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Baptist Student Union, and the Interfaith Center, just to name a few. It’s another way for those who live by faith to come together with their peers. Chip Green, a fourth year student, had this to say about THIRSTY?: “Thirsty is a Thursday night ministry event that features a unique blend of Christian music and worship artists, accredited biblical teachers and speakers, in an authentic atmosphere.”
Chris Byrley, a member of the group, adds, “THIRSTY’s main focus is to allow students to experience an intense worship service. In Psalms 107:9, it says this: ‘For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.'”
Thewebsite, areyouthirsty.com, went more in-depth on what the intention of THIRSTY? is, and what to expect when you attend a meeting like this: “Ask a complete stranger, out of the blue, if they are THIRSTY and they will look at you like you are a little fruity and were dropped on your head as a baby. When asked this question, some say “yes”, others say “no”, but in reality we are not asking someone if they want something to drink.”
The website goes on to explain the statements scenario: “It really has nothing to do with the physical, but has everything to do with the spiritual.” So let’s ask the question one more time. Anyone THIRSTY? The obvious answer is “yes!” However, what’s not so obvious is the reason why. Why are we THIRSTY all the time?
In the following passage, We are THIRSTY because all of us long for something more, something deeper, something that is spiritual, and the physical is not quenching our THIRST. More than ever we live in a consumer world. We devour anything as fast as we can. Yet we can never get enough…of anything. We devour relationships, pleasure, food, work, entertainment, accomplishments, and everything else as fast as we can. However, when it’s all said and done, our THIRST remains. Look around. We live in an unquenched world. People everywhere are driven along by a THIRSTING, a wanting, a needing, a longing, but for. Included in the website are directions to the theater from wherever you may be coming, a schedule of the topics and a list of the bands playing at the event that week.
Intriguing, is it not? The event is open to whoever wants to come and promises to bring good music and topics worth listening to. If you have any questions, you can contact the Street Team via the website. So come, Thursday nights at 8:00, and see what THIRSTY? is all about. If the enthusiasm of the group members, the diverse topics, and the quality of the music that will be playing are any indication, this is going to be an amazing event.
