Herring becomes acting Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs
Former Executive Director of Counseling and Career Services and Diversity Al Herring was named acting Assistant Vice President for Student Life in the wake of Dr. Bridgette Pregliasco’s recent departure.
Pregliasco, who held the position for 7 years, left the university August 1 to pursue other career options.
According to Vice President for Student Affairs Denise Gifford, Herring will remain in the interim position for six months as the office evaluates the position. Gifford said Student Affairs plans to begin a search to fill the position permanently in January of next year.
The position requires a background in higher education, as well as administrative experience in higher education counseling. A doctorate degree in student affairs or some other sort of higher education is also required.
The Student Life Office supervises a number of university organizations, including Intramural and Recreational Sports, Student Activities, Housing and Resident Life, Greek Life, ACCESS, and Student Government.
The mission of the Student Life Office, according to its website, is to ” facilitate and support the intentional creation of co-curricular programs and environments that enhance student learning and personal development.
“Student Life supports the educational mission of the University of Louisville by providing opportunities, through co-curricular programs, to foster the development of intercultural appreciation, leadership, creativity, confidence, self-esteem, integrity, and personal and civic responsibility.”
