After a personal best performance, winning medalist honors at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tuscon, Ariz., Cardinal senior Meghan Little was named both Golf Week and Conference USA Player of the week for the week of March 28. Little won the Mountain View Collegiate with a personal best score of 209, making it her third tournament win. She also tied her collegiate low with a score of 68 in the first round, and followed it up with a score of 69 in the second round the same day. She finished the tournament shooting par the final day to win by two strokes. Little was blown away with her performance and was surprised to find out she had won the tournament. “I knew I played well, but I didn’t know until the end that I had won,” said Little. Little seemed confident going into the tournament having played the course last year. She knew she had to keep all three rounds under par, but had an early setback in the tournament. “My practice round was the worst I’ve ever played,” she said. “I don’t know how I could have had such a bad practice round and then win the tournament.” Someone once told Little that your weaknesses can become strengths and Little credited her greatest weakness in her golf game to helping her win: putting. “I knew every shot and putt was crucial. I really focused on putting,” Little said. U of L head coach Kelly Meyers was not at all surprised by Little’s spectacular performance. “This was just the start of her great golfs to come,” Meyers said. With a near-perfect and personal best performance, Little shines in the spotlight, along with the rest the U of L golf program as it prepares to enter the Big East this fall. The competition for the Lady Cards will not change, but the conference switch, topped off with Little’s success is drawing the eyes of prospective recruits to U of L. “Meghan is the best senior to come through the program. She has the character, play, academics, and good leadership. She has the whole package. She is a true representative of the program and the philosophy we stand for,” Meyers said.
