In the year 2004, Harvard undergrads Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin put their brains and funds together to create a social website they referred to as “The Facebook.” “The Social Network” reveals the story behind the beginnings of this phenomenon. An ensemble cast, featuring actors ranging from Jesse Eisenberg to Justin Timberlake, with the help of director David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en) and writer Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, A Few Good Men). “The Social Network” is in theaters now.

Dusk at the Derby Museum

Oct. 5

5 – 9 p.m., $30 – $32

Students are invited to join the Kentucky Derby Museum’s celebration of the 2010 World Equestrian Games with an exclusive one and a half hour guided tour of Churchill Downs. Features of the tour include stops at the Jockeys’ Quarters, Millionaires’ Row and the Press Box. The highlight of the tour will be a trip up to the balcony of the Turf Club that offers a great view of the famous Twin Spires. The cost of the tour is $20 plus admission to the Kentucky Derby Museum, which is $12 for those over 18 and $10 for those 18 and under. Reservations are recommended, as space is limited to 15 guests per tour.

Ultimate Cardinals Survivor Challenge

Oct. 6

5 – 7 p.m., free

As part of the Homecoming Week festivities, the University of Louisville will be hosting its own version of the reality television show “Survivor.” Students can participate in or merely watch the event. Teams will contend to become the ultimate Survivor by racing through a relay-style competition. Ultimate Cardinals Survivor Challenge will take place on the West Lawn on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Homecoming football game

Oct. 9

2 p.m., prices vary

The Louisville football team will take on the University of Memphis Tigers at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 9. The game will be the culmination of Homecoming festivities. The Tigers are former rivals of U of L from Conference USA. They are 1-4, with a lone victory over Middle Tennessee State University on Sept. 18. Last season the Tigers finished 2-10, but are under the direction of new head coach Larry Porter.  The Cards lead the all-time series with Memphis 22-19, including a 35-28 win in 2008.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.

“The Prophet and the Prostitute”

Oct. 10

Based on the Biblical story of Hosea and Gomer, “The Prophet and the Prostitute” is a play about love, marriage and fidelity in ancient Israel. The production will take place at the Clifton Center on Payne St. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Clifton Center at (502) 896-8480.
