Seeking Editor for The Louisville Cardinal
Full-time position with tuition stipend and salary
The board of The Louisville Cardinal, the award-winning independent voice of the University of Louisville, is now accepting applications for editor in chief for the 2009-2010 school year.
Applications are due by noon, March 27, 2009.
In addition to managing a staff and producing a weekly newspaper and a daily report online, the editor is responsible for working in concert with the business staff on budget, circulation, payroll and advertising matters.
The editor is the face of the newspaper and as such must initiate and maintain good public relations with university officials, alumni, student government leaders, student groups and of course, students.
The editor reports to an editorial adviser and to the board of directors of the Louisville Cardinal Inc., a nonprofit organization. The editor is part of an editorial committee that produces the weekly opinion section and helps decide the editorial stance of the paper.
The editor runs weekly staff and production meetings and must be available on weekends to edit and design the paper and to send it to the printer in a timely fashion. The editor must also be available during the summer and winter breaks.
Candidates for this position must have journalism and management experience, with knowledge of InDesign software and a familiarity with Web publishing. They must be proven leaders who have the time and dedication to keep producing an award-winning product each week. They must be full-time students in good standing at the University of Louisville.
The applicant should include cover letter, resume, clips, references and a detailed outline of her/his vision of how they will lead the staff. The board will conduct face to face interviews.
