Caps approved for
2009-10 tuition
Thanks to a unanimous vote by the Council on Postsecondary Education Friday, tuition increases will be capped, remaining at or below 5 percent at Kentucky’s public universities for the 2009-10 year, according to the Courier Journal.
The University of Louisville and UK will be required to set caps on tuition and fee increases that are about half of this year’s increase. The tuition was raised for both schools last year by 9 percent. With this cap, the increase for undergraduate, in-state students can be no more than five percent or $380 at U of L and $387 to $398 at UK.
Math lecturer to speak about number patterns
Dr. Quinn is coming to the University of Louisville – and not the Medicine Woman, this Dr. Quinn calls herself the “Mathematics Woman.”
Dr. Jennifer Quinn, former executive director of the Association for Women in Mathematics, will be discussing the “Fibonacci Fascination” March 26 at 6 p.m. in Strickler 101. Leonardo Fibonacci created the Fibonacci number sequence in the thirteenth century. This sequence consists of a number created by adding the two numbers preceding it (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc.). Dr. Quinn will be discussing this number sequence, which is seen in nature, magic, music and art.
This talk is free to the public and is considered the annual Bullitt lecture. For more information, visit www.math.louisville.edu/Bullitt.
