University of Louisville, like many other institutions, has its fair share of pluses and minuses. But we are here to show that for each positive, there is a negative. We as a staff and students can relate and feel your pain.

Thanks…

  • The Albino Squirrel
The pale squirrel on campus whose sighting is few and far between brings a smile to your face because of its rarity.  He/she brings something different to the “wildlife” on campus.  And the little tyke even has a Facebook group and a framed T-shirt.
  • Tulip Tree Café
Working and going to college, often requires late hours of studying. Here, you have to bring your laptop because computers are limited. Why pay for coffeehouse Wi-Fi, when you have it free in your own backyard? And during the non-winter months, the patio area is the best.
  • Bardstown Road/Highlands Area
It has a mixture of places to chill: Ear-X-tacy, Santa Fe (aka the Purple House), Cumberland Brews, BW3’s, and Café 360 are a few popular spots in the area. You can get a gourmet fair trade coffee, a micro brewed beer and a poster for your dorm room all in a few blocks (on foot).
  • Barack Obama
    Nuff said!
  • Free lunch on campus
If you look hard enough, you can (almost) eat on campus daily for free. Just look at those stacks of papers stapled on Davidson Hall’s corkboards. Also, bug your friends who you know are involved in at least 10 clubs or more on campus and get the hook-up.
  • The fall semester is coming to an end
The end is near! Although stressful, this is one semester you got down to get  your degree.  Think about how you’re in your last few hours of dealing with an annoying professor or the non-attending classmate who keeps emailing you and asking for notes. Don’t worry, it’s almost over!
  • U of L basketball team
Come on Ricky and T-Will, you can get us to the Final Four. According to several sources, it seems as though we are capable. Also, Rick, please pull out that fly white suit again.
  • Bike Racks
University of Louisville and its Student Government Association came through on increasing the number of bike racks. As a result, it seems the campus cyclists are not abusing the handicap ramps by chaining their bikes to them.

BUT NO THANKS

  • The squirrels that beg for food
They prove that we humans are just a step above mammals.  They have some unique tactics and some could use a little more exercise. Maybe we could train them to carry messages or strap little cameras to their backs and make an “Animal Planet” show.
  • Tulip Tree Café
Think Wendy’s is bad? This café is a very close second when it comes to the length of the lines. Also, if it’s open 24 hours for studying, then it should be open 24 hours for coffee too.
  • Bardstown Road/Highlands Area
If you don’t have a car to get there, it can be hard to enjoy.  TARC bus #29 Eastern Parkway only runs so late and is it really worth getting on the bus for? And most of the time you find yourself walking pass many shops because you can’t afford anything in them.
  • Barack Obama
Despite the excitement of his election, it seems that the tone has died down less than a month after. Our future is in his hands and we need to pay even more attention to our new Commander-in-Chief. Do you all recall the last guy in office?
  • Free lunch on campus
OK, it’s free lunch, but enough with the hamburgers and hot dogs. In the future, we’ll  have to go to U of L’s state of the art heart medical center and think, “Damn that Oscar Meyer at the Red Barn.”  But, we are grateful, especially when we get Moe’s Southwest Grill or Fazoli’s (mmm…breadsticks!)
  • The fall semester is coming to an end
This just means cold weather and buying holiday gifts. Who wants to be cold and broke? Wait a minute, we already know what that feels like.
  • U of Losing football team
They’ve lost four consecutive games, a first in 11 years.  Does anyone remember the Orange Bowl? It seems like so long ago. Well, now those two meager points against Kentucky doesn’t seem that bad.
  • Bike Racks
Due to the weather changing, they might not be used as much.  But, spring will be here before you know it. Besides, avid bikers are like the Post Office, they can make it through rain, sleet or snow.
