Take Back the Night, an event held to promote awareness for violence against women, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23 outside the Red Barn from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the public and will be emceed by Karina Barillas of the Latina Women’s Movement.
Activities at the event will include a Speak Out Session, a candlelight vigil and a march around U of L’s campus by the participants. It will also include comments from University of Louisville President James Ramsey as well as Al Herring of the Muhammed Ali Institute.
The events’ keynote address will be delivered by Dorothy Edwards, the founding director of the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center at the University of Kentucky. Take Back the Night was organized by such groups as Prevention, Education and Advocacy on Campus and in the Community (PEACC), the Center for Women and Families and Louisville Metro Office for Women.
