As a student, I expected to find decent food, especially considering that names such as Subway, Wendy’s and Papa John’s are familiar dining services.
However, in the mere five weeks on campus, I’ve experienced my share of bad food.
Veggie subs scarce in vegetables, broccoli and cheese baked potatoes that smell of vomit and deep dish pizza, topped with a thick layer of grease.
With vegetarian dishes and healthy options being almost non-existent, students rely on the Terrace in order to find foods that meet their standards. There, they are able to find Chick-fil-A, Mein Bowl, Garden Toss and Global Market, along with the Smart Market, for on-the-go foods and Half Time Grill.
From 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday,  students are able to find a hot breakfast at Global Market. There, they serve delicious omelets made to order, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and much more.
During lunch hours throughout the Terrace, students are able to find pasta, chicken sandwiches, sushi, Chinese cuisine, create-your-own salads and many other options. With great options at decent prices, what could be wrong with the dining services at the Terrace?
With exception of to the Half Time Grill and Global Market’s breakfast hours, the dining services are only open from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
These hours leave dinner and weekend options limited to those that are less appealing and appetizing.
Though Half Time Grill is open seven days a week, whether or not their food is satisfactory depends on the time students dine there.
Breakfast is served from 7 to10 a.m. Monday through Friday, where they serve a buffet with an array of breakfast foods. Lunch is served al a cart and is considered throughout campus the best food the restaurant has to offer. It may be a little expensive because each item must be ordered separately; students still go there for lunch.
As dinner comes around, Half Time Grill is open from 5 to 10 p.m.; the restaurant serves a buffet of less than satisfactory food for a high price.
For students who are trying to avoid the Freshman 15 or are following a strict vegetarian diet, they have a hard time finding healthy options on the Ground Level of the SAC.
Although Subway offers some healthy options, many students get tired of eating the same foods everyday. Therefore, they turn to the unhealthy, greasy options when obesity is already running high nationally.
Likewise, many of the vegetarian options are offered in the Terrace, leaving vegetarians searching for something new as opposed to the same Veggie Delite sub from Subway that they always have to eat.
Until the Terrace decides to extend their hours to dinner and the weekends, students must search for new options in order to find a variety of better food on campus.
