Last week, the Genocide Awareness Project visited our campus at the invitation of the Recognized Student Organization, Louisville Cards for Life. The Genocide Awareness Project involves comparing the aborted human fetuses to horrific acts in history such as the lynching African Americans and the devastation of the Holocaust.
While I disagree with their message and the display of such graphic images, I respect the right of an RSO to invite members outside our community to bring further awareness of an issue that is important to them.
I am concerned more with the location of such a display. I have received many complaints from students, on both sides of the abortion issue, who have complained about the location of this display.
Currently the Dean of Student’s Office coordinates the location where a demonstration or display such as the Genocide Awareness Project can occur; however, no student input via SGA representation has been obtained to identify where those locations should be.
University of Louisville students should be empowered to make a decision about where displays and future demonstrations should occur at U of L.
Send me your thoughts on where you would like the University Demonstration Zones to be at sgasvp@louisville.edu.
