Valentines Day is Thursday, and for those who may have forgotten this important day, the chance to save face while treating their valentines to free heart felt munchies will be available at this years “Hearts and Hamburgers,” hosted by the Student Activities Board.
The second Annual “Hearts and Hamburgers” will be held in the Red Barn on Feb. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to all students, and will feature free hamburgers, hotdogs and soft drinks in celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.
The SAB is hoping that students will get in the Valentine-mood by following a fun, colored dress code. If you are taken wear red, if you are dating someone wear pink, and if you are single wear blue.
Kymberly Falcone, chair of the Special Interests Committee of SAB, is anxious to see the color turnout on V-day. “We’re just trying to get people in the spirit by wearing the colors. People may be afraid to wear blue if they are single, but you never know who you might me at this event.”
Tara Kollenberg, a junior biology major, said “I would wear blue, but I’ll be in class.”
Events like “Hearts and Hamburgers” are usually reserved for Welcome Weekend, Rush week and finals week, so students are encouraged to take advantage of this mid-semester offering of free food.
For those who are unable to stay for the hotdogs, a stroll by the Red Barn to check out the swanky red decor is an option. Notorious love ballads will also be playing, sure to melt any heart for the holiday.
Kim Grieshaber, a sophomore exercise science major who will be wearing red, hopes to make it out for the hamburgers, “Free food is always a plus.”
“Hearts and Hamburgers” was a great success last year, and we know that there aren’t that many daytime events around this time of year,” said Falcone. “We are doing this for the students, so I hope they come out and enjoy it.”
For those looking for a moment with their Valentine, looking for a Valentine, or just looking for lunch, stop by the Red Barn Thursday.
