Amidst the holiday shopping, Christmas lights, fruitcake and caroling, people often forget about one of Louisville’s most important signs of the season: winter concerts. Four glorious weeks of winter break are just around the corner, and local venues are hosting plenty of great gigs, most for less than $20, to fill these school-free nights.
For the few of you not stuck in the library this week, Aussie rockers, Karnivool, will be making their way to Louisville this Thursday at Uncle Pleasants. After spending most of this year with Nonpoint and Skindred on the annual “Great American Rampage Tour,” Karnivool will make a pit stop in Kentucky with Inner Glue, Serene, Hanover and Institution.
Just across town at Headliners Music Hall, notorious Mathcore band, Dillinger Escape Plan will be playing with A Life Once Lost and Genghis Tron the same night. Known for their technical guitar work, wide-ranged vocals and intense live concerts, moshing induced by Dillinger may cause bloody noses and black eyes, but it’s nothing a metal head can’t handle.
If you are craving a hefty dose of punk-pop, Headliners will be hosting The Starting Line this Friday at 7 p.m. The Starting Line, who have recently broken onto the MTV circuit with their single, “Island,” will be accompanied by The Almost, the notable side project of drummer Aaron Gillespie of Underoath.
If finals are keeping you in the Louisville until December 11th, Cross Canadian Ragweed will be at Headliners at 9 p.m. After spending most of their career touring the southern states, CCR (quite the coincidence, eh?) is bringing their southern rock and country to the Bluegrass state.
On Dec. 12th Anberlin will be at Headliners. These alternative rockers, who released their first album less than five years ago and have already nailed down their third earlier this year, will be with Metro Station and Wake the Day.
Screaming into the New Year will be the metalcore quintet At All Cost. Keen on promoting their political and social agenda through passionate lyrics, At All Cost will be at Uncle Pleasants January 2nd at 7 p.m.
Among the larger acts coming to Louisville this winter is R&B singer R. Kelly. Despite his recent indictments, his Double Up tour has been drawing a steady crowd since mid-October He will be here January 5th with fellow R&B artists Ne-Yo, Keysha Cole and J Holiday.
Even if snow is not in the forecast this winter, the holidays in Louisville are sure to be head banging.
