Phoenix Hill Tavern welcomed Louisville’s music lovers to enjoy the pop/rock group Dr. Dog this past Saturday (November 3rd). A full room of rock enthusiasts patiently awaited Dr. Dog to take the stage after two hours of opening acts. The crowd’s excitement definitely proved it was worth the wait.

The band put on a very high-energy show that had everyone dancing and clapping, or at least toe tapping. The music they played was easy listening rock that didn’t leave your ears ringing in pain after the show. Dr. Dog seems to be a laid back set of musicians. In fact, two of the bands members wore sunglasses throughout the entire performance.

The group had a refreshingly retro sound with three part harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles or The Beach Boys. Dr. Dog is currently on a 15-city tour promoting their 4th album, “We All Belong”. Rolling Stone called the new album “truly inviting” and gave it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars. The psychedelic rock group is part of the Philly based recording label Park the Van, they share the same hometown.

In 2006 Dr. Dog had the privilege of doing several shows with the well-known alternative rock group The Strokes, which contributed greatly to their growing fan base. This past summer Dr. Dog played in Louisville for the 6th annual Lebowski Fest, which seems to have earned them quite a few dedicated Louisville fans.

With four albums under their belts, and a nationwide tour these guys may be on the way to hitting it bigger. Their music is definitely worth a listen, and they put on a fantastic live show. More information including hearing their music is on the net at drdogmusic.com.
