All three of the University of Louisville’s Moot Court teams may be headed to the national tournament in January.

Moot Court is a collegiate competition which usually pits law students against one another in appellate legal arguments, like the cases which go before the Supreme Court.

“After last year’s success, the pressure to excel is definitely greater,” said senior philosophy major Anthony Cash.

Of the 18 teams in last weekend’s Southeast Regional, all three of U of L’s squads advanced to the second round, and two received a guaranteed bid to the nationals.

Freshman and sophomore political science majors Andrew Carrol and Kirk Laughlin, and senior political science majors Cash and Kyle Riggs will head to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in January for the national tournament.

Freshman and sophomore political science majors Kaitlin Rust and Mauricus Lofton still have a chance to receive a wild-card bid.

The Moot Court teams were organized by U of L’s McConnell Center, who began their involvement with the tournament last year, when two teams advanced to the national finals.
