On Oct. 5-7 Louisville celebrated its 51st Annual St. James Court Art Show. The event, rated as the best National Art Show 2004, 2005 and 2007 by Sunshine Magazine, reported an estimated attendance of over 300,000 patrons.

Patrons generally expecting to enjoy the fine autumn weather and the elegant Victorian surroundings of the neighborhoods were surprised by abnormally warm weather that peaked at temperatures as high as 92 degrees.?

The St. James Court Art Show began five decades ago as a small open-air art fair taking up only a small corner of Old Louisville’s St. James Court.

It has since grown into one of the largest in the country, with over 700 artists coming from every corner of the country to display an array of artwork including paintings, drawings, prints, watercolors, pottery, furniture and crafts.

All exhibitors are expected to have produced the art work with their own hands.

The art show has long since outgrown its original location, now crowding every inch of St. James and Belgravia Courts, as well as significant areas of Magnolia, Third and Fourth Streets and Central Park.

On the site of the former Southern Exposition of 1883-1887, St. James and Belgravia Courts are among the most recognized landmarks of Louisville.
