After the University of Louisville Baseball team romped past Oklahoma State University Friday night 9-0, the Cowboys handed Louisville a loss in a 12-inning matinee Saturday, ending the Cards’ four-game winning streak.

OSU scored first with a single run homer by senior outfielder Corey Brown in the top of the fourth inning with U of L freshman pitcher Justin Marks on the mound.

The Cards remained scoreless until the sixth inning when an error by OSU’s senior first baseman Rebel Ridling gave Louisville’s senior Daniel Burton the base, which was then followed with a hit by senior Isaiah Howes.

In scoring position, Louisville’s junior Jorge Castillo then stepped up to the plate. After a series of fouls and balls, Castillo hit a double deep and down the line to right field, scoring Burton and Howes.

After a single run homer by OSU senior outfielder Ty Wright in the ninth, the Cards tried to score to close it in regulation, but the Cowboys caught the Cards sole hit – a pop fly by Castillo. the one hit – a pop fly – forcing the game into extra innings.

The Cards and Cowboys traded scoreless innings until the twelfth when an error by the Cards put the Cowboys in scoring position.

The Cowboys, who only had two hits and two runs in the first nine innings, managed to find their offense in the top of the 12th inning hitting two and bring home a run.

With Cardinal fans biting their nails, Louisville tried to regain momentum in the bottom of the 12th. After freshman Chris Dominguez sent another pop fly to left field and senior outfielder Pete Rodriguez singled, Louisville pulled junior catcher Derrick Alfonso from the lineup and put junior third baseman Justin McClanahan in to hit. McClanahan chased the outside balls and was struck out swinging.

Senior shortstop Chris Cates then stepped up to the plate. After a couple of pitches, Cates popped out to left field, and was called out, ending the Cards win streak.

Louisville looks to rebound against the Cowboys tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in Jim Patterson Stadium. Reserved seating is sold out for the game, but standing room is still available.
