Most people would be scared that they were not going to college, but instead were trying to pursue their dream of making it as a singer.

This is not the case for Andrea Davidson, a local musician in Louisville.

She said that instead of feeling scared she is “anxious.” And she added she “feels lucky to be able to support [herself] with what she loves.”

Students may recognize her from a Unicef benefit that was held at the Red Barn last month or at Headliners last Thursday, where she organized a benefit for Kosair’s Charity.

They also may be able to recognize her from some local venues she has played at in Louisville, such as Stevie Ray’s or Dutch’s Tavern.

Davidson’s sound is best described as acoustic soul.

“Most people compare [me] to Jewel, Norah Jones, Mazzy Star, or Sarah McLachlan,” commented Davidson.

She was signed with a local label at one point, but Davidson says that it didn’t work out and she doesn’t like the idea of someone else “owning her art.”

However, that didn’t stop her from making an album. She started making a demo with Bob Baker at the Doo-wop Shop in Bardstown.

Before she knew it, instead of a demo she had a full length CD with 11 tracks.

It was then sent to TCA in Cincinnati for replication and dropped this past Friday.

Davidson says that about 250 records have been sold and a couple of local radio stations have started playing her songs.

Davidson added, “I want to play music for as many people as possible.”

She wants to eventually tour and play for people outside of the Louisville area but she knows that this means she will have to eventually sign with a label-and for now, she is enjoying playing in Louisville and writing songs.
