Sec. of State Baker to speak to U of L prof.

Former Secretary of State James Baker will be at the University of Louisville next Tuesday to speak about his book “Work Hard, Study, and Keep out of Politics!” He will be interviewed by CNN reporter John King at the Kentucky Center, and by U of L professor Dr. Jasmine Farrier at 1:30 p.m. in the Chao Auditorium.

House Speaker of Ky. presents higher ed. plans

State Speaker of the House and 2007 gubernatorial candidate Jody Richards-D, presented a plan Thursday for higher education. He spoke Thursday about his proposals which are aimed at making college attainable to the neediest students throughout the state. The presentation took place after Richards’ presentation before the Kentucky Education Association’s Delegate Assembly at the Executive West Hotel.

Students present research symposium

The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research will host a research symposium, allowing students to showcase their research projects. Students and faculty are encouraged to attend in order learn more about the projects that “build and enrich faculty work across the disciplines,” according to a news release. The event will be in the Belknap Research building today from 12:30-4:00 p.m.

HSC to thank body donors’ families

The U of L Chapter of the American Medical Student Association will host an event honoring the families of those who have donated their bodies to science for anatomical research. The memorial service, called “A Convocation of Thanks,” will be today at 5:30 p.m. at the Health Sciences Auditorium. This event is the first for U of L since 1993, and it aims to allow students to show gratitude for donations that contribute to the education of medical students.

Women’s Center explores athlete depression

The Women’s Center of the University of Louisville will host an inquiry into “Depression among female athletes” April 25 5:30-7:30 p.m. Speakers include former college and professional athletes from U of L and the Women’s National Basketball Association, and faculty from the university Counseling Center. The lectures and discussion will take place in the Chao Auditorium of the Ekstrom Library, and a light snack will be provided.
