It’s been about four years now here at The Cardinal, and while it pains me to say this, I feel it is time to move along. Yes, this indeed will be my last column, but before I go on my spiel here I would like to thank a few people. I know it is hard to stomach so, before you continue reading, take a deep breath, grab a tissue, pour yourself a drink and everything will be okay.

First and foremost I would like to thank everyone at The Louisville Cardinal for putting up with all my shenanigans in past years; most notably our undeniably popular Editor in Chief Chris Brown; GlyptusAnn Grider who has been there every step of the way with me at the paper; Emory Williamson, whom I do not really like and anyone and everyone else whose paths I have crossed while working here.

I cannot forget several of my closest friends and most loyal readers (at least they told me they read my stuff, but they were probably humoring me): Donnie Niehaus, Matt Long, Doug Pfetzer, Evan Buckley and the entire Sigma Chi Fraternity who have always supported my journalistic endeavors and vices.

I would also like to thank Barry Bonds for being such a great man. (You didn’t think I would get through this without mentioning my boy did you?) And last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of my fans… yes, all four of you.

I am pretty sure I can lump everyone who happens to pick up the paper to take a look at what I have to say every week into four categories. First being my friends, second being “reader guy” who grabs the paper before he goes into the bathroom, third is “reader guy” who grabs the paper for something to read so he does not fall asleep in class and, of course, there is “reader girl” who is deeply infatuated with me and not only picks the paper up to read what I have to say, but also to gaze at my beautiful face (yeah girls, I know you’re out there).

I was lucky, I dropped in on the ‘Ville right before this sports volcano erupted four years ago. As sad as it may seem, the reason I decided to come here was for the rising athletic program.

I think I was sort of like Pierce Brosnan in that movie “Dante’s Peak.” He shows up in this little town right before the volcano erupts, saves the day and gets the girl and lives happily ever after.

Okay, I didn’t save the day or get the girl while I was here and I know I will never live happily so it’s a bad analogy. But the ‘Ville did erupt in the past couple years as a one of the best college sports town in America. (That billboard that used to being up saying “Best College Sports Town In America” was going out on a limb a little bit though.)

I got to see one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time rebuild this program and get it to a Final Four; I was given the opportunity to watch one of the most exciting football teams in college football play for four years culminating in a BCS win in January, not to mention watching countless other programs rise to the top under the guidance of one of the top athletic directors in all the land. What more could a sports fan ask for?

So I think we are done here, thanks for the memories Louisville!
