Most students at the University of Louisville have tried their best to avoid the icy cold temperatures, but freshman Zachary Seiler plans to brave the weather of Belknap Campus in nothing but a Speedo.
Seiler, a chemistry major, was approached by members of the Resident Student Association from Unitas Hall and was asked to help generate fundraising ideas to help support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kosair Children’s Hospital. Members of the RSA and Seiler came up with the idea to have a pledge-based marathon, in which Seiler will run across the campus in a Speedo.
“My Speedo is a delicious and very classless blue,” said Seiler.
The six checkpoints of the Seiler’s course include Unitas Tower, the Alumni Center, the Student Activities Center, the Ekstrom Library, the Business School and then a final sprint back to Unitas.
“My friends have been helping me train,” said Seiler, who has been preparing for the course by running with friends and clothes on. “It’ll be cold, but I’ll be fine,” he said.
Students may donate as little as a quarter a checkpoint or whatever amount they feel comfortable with. Seiler said that his group’s goal for Unitas Tower is $200, which he feels is easily reachable with the students’ help.
“It’s a great idea for a great cause, and will hopefully bring money in for Kosair’s and perhaps even start a tradition,” said Unitas resident Kevin Bueter, a freshman Arts and Sciences major.
The “Seiler Speedo Streak” will begin today at 7:15 p.m. in front of Unitas Hall. Hot chocolate and glow bracelets will be provided by RSA to spectators.
