District Judge Joan “Toni” Stringer and Glenda Dickerson, the only living black woman who has directed a broadway play will speak in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s honor on Jan. 12 and 15 at the University of Louisville Belknap campus.
Stringer will speak on Jan 12 about the state of Civil Rights in the 21st century from 11:30 – 1 pm in Room 100 of Bingham Humanites. It will also include a performance from the Youth Preforming Arts School and poetry from U of L’s African American Theatre Program.
On Jan 15 Dickerson will draw her talk from a chapter in her upcoming book. The title of the talk is “We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest,” and will be at Freedom Park.
Also on Jan. 15 is a perfomance of “The Making of Legend: Madame CJ Walker” and “Kentucky Black History on Parade”, as well as a presentation about Freedom Park, and a reading of King’s “I Have a Dream” Speech.
