The department of Classical and Modern Languages is preparing for its 12th-annual Latin American Film Festival, which is set to begin Thurs., Sept. 14 in the new Chao Auditorium in Ekstrom Library.

The festival will feature six films from Latin American cinema, each of which will be shown on Thursday evenings at 7:15 through Oct. 19 and Fridays at noon through Oct. 20.

“The main goal of the festival is to promote knowledge of language, culture and its embodied diversity through the popular medium of film,” said Dr. Lisa Wagner, an associate professor of Linguistics and Spanish at the University of Louisville. “The [festival] committee hopes to provide members of the U of L and Louisville Metro communities with free, enjoyable events that promote intellectual growth and cultural understanding.”

The films, which are all from Spanish speaking countries with the exception of one feature from Brazil, will be presented in their original language with English subtitles.
