With college football kicking off this weekend, I thought I would give you some ideas on a couple of good road trips to take this season. The Ville will obviously be a destination for college football junkies come Nov. 2, when West Virginia comes to town. Here are a couple of other games to consider while the Cards are on the road. Some of these destinations are simply going to feature great games, while others may just be good spots to soak up some of the best college football atmosphere.

Sept. 9: Ohio State at Texas

Things may not be as exciting without Vince Young, but the stage will still be set with both teams starting the season ranked in the top 5. A couple essentials for your trip: Samuel L. Jackson’s character from “Snakes on a Plane” Agent Flynn – I hear there are a whole lot of rattlesnakes in Texas and I would hate to hear that you had to catch the game in the ER because you got bit while tailgating. If you are an OSU fan, bring some sort of device to protect yourself with, or else you’re liable to get kicked in the face by a Longhorn fan with snakeskin boots on.

Oct. 28: Florida at Georgia

The game formerly known as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” played at the Jaguar’s ALLTEL Stadium in Jacksonville has been going on for close to one hundred years. Both teams are always contenders in the SEC and the winner normally gets the upper hand in the SEC East. The nickname was recently changed after SEC officials were worried about its implications referring to alcohol consumption. Regardless, any game that used to be tagged with the words “Largest,” “Cocktail,” and “Party” warrants a trip.

Anyone at Ole Miss

Besides a chance to see QB Brent Schaffer, a trip to Oxford will most likely not result in a good football game but “the Grove” is arguably one of the best places to tailgate before watching the Rebels get waxed by an SEC team. While the dress code is strict, all the young southern belles with sun dresses on will make it worthwhile to put on a polo and some Sperrys for the day. Don’t plan on sleeping the night before because unless you arrive around 4 a.m., you can kiss a parking spot goodbye.

Nov. 25: Florida at Florida State

Not only will this be a great football game, but every time the Gators and Seminoles meet, you have as good of a chance to see a fight between these in-state rivals as you would if you went to the Source Awards. While the rivalry has lost some of its luster with the Ole’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier no longer instigating opposing coaches, the game may have National Championship implications and will showcase some of the best NFL talent in the college ranks.Other games and places to consider; Notre Dame at USC. The Big House. Army at Navy.
