Black suede Gucci handbag: $750, Jimmy Choo leather slingbacks: $525, Dolce & Gabbana pencil skirt: $425, The new film, “The Devil Wears Prada,” starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway: priceless. An amazing cast, co-starring Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt lights up the screen. The film “The Devil Wears Prada,” a brilliant adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s book, is devilishly witty and fun. The movie focuses on the life of the fashion industry, and though self-satirical, one can’t walk away from the theatre without a newfound respect for each and every person that struts down the catwalk. Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor of leading fashion magazine Runway, recently lost an assistant. The job a million girls would die for falls into the size six lap of Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). A recent Brown University graduate, Andy moves to New York seeking an entry level position in arguably one of the world’s most well known and read magazines, The New Yorker, but instead finds herself at the high heels of an executive monster. However, working merely a year for the Miranda Priestly would assure a job anywhere desired, as long as you didn’t get fired. Or die trying. As time progresses, Andy’s work ethic and social life begin to suffer as more and more is stacked onto her already full plate. Her new Blackberry never stops ringing, and each time she glances to see Miranda Priestly lit on the screen, another piece of her soul seems to die. “Prada” has its share of twists and turns along with pokes and prods from a pitchfork or two. The attitudes and cheekbones are sharp, and the commentary is full of sarcastic wit and laughter for all. “The Devil Wears Prada” is truly two horns up.
