Any game where you get to beat up a gang of mimes can’t be all bad, right? Wrong. Even that can’t redeem all the lackluster qualities of “The Warriors.”
Based on the 1979 cult classic of the same name, “The Warriors” drops you in the middle of a New York gang war where more than a dozen gangs, each with their own stereotypical theme, battle it out for the same turf. As the player, you control each of the nine members of The Warriors as you wreak havoc, steal from stores, mug pedestrians, beat down underprivileged minority gang members, and scatter like cockroaches when cops are in sight, in an attempt to prove you’re the baddest gang on the block.
“The Warriors” plays out like a poor man’s “Grand Theft Auto.” With the same monotonous button-mashing patterns and mediocre side missions, “The Warriors” has little to offer. After a few hours you’ve seen all the game has to offer. Try to hold out until the next GTA comes out, because “The Warriors” will only disappoint.
