Field hockey breaks into tourney

The U of L field hockey team earned the No. 3 seed in the Big East tournament, which begins on Friday, Nov. 4, at Rutgers University. They will face the No.-2 seeded UConn. In the last competition between the two schools, U of L’s sixth-ranked women’s volleyball team improved to 21-1 last week in Chicago when the team demolished DePaul 3-0.

This after last week’s 3-1 loss at Notre Dame.

“After a match like the Notre Dame the day before, you can’t let your guard down,” said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. “We took care of business and had our offense clicking.”

Junior Stephanie Marsh had 11 kills, two aces and 10 digs in the game.

The Cards are now 8-1 in the Big East conference. The team is next slated to take on Georgia and South Florida, both away.

UConn defeated the Cards 3-1.

Action will begin at 7 p.m. at the Stadium Complex on the Rutgers campus.

Men’s soccer falls in final home game

The U of L men’s soccer team fell to USF 4-1 in their final home appearance.

“For the first 30 minutes of tonight’s game, I thought we played as well as we’ve played at home all season,” said U of L Head Coach Tony Colavecchia.”We conceded that penalty in the 37th minute and that had a big impact on the game because it forced us to play one man down for 53 minutes against a good team.”

The Cardinals will finish the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at DePaul.
