Brent Hurst might have won SAE’s Gentleman of the Year award, but that’s not his fraternity’s only accomplishment this year. The U of L SAE chapter also finished in the top five for the national SAE Zeal award.

Chapter president Hurst said finishing in the top five “was an amazing accomplishment, considering there are over 300 chapters of SAE in the country.”

Since U of L’s SAE has only been a chapter for six years, Hurst is especially proud of them.

“This achievement is something every brother that has come through this chapter should be proud of,” he said.

“I’m really proud of what these guys did,” said Dr. Terry Singer, SAE’s adviser, noting that when he was in SAE at Penn State, things weren’t quite how they are now.

There are currently 50 active members in U of L’s SAE chapter, with a pledge class of 44 men.

Joni Burke, assistant director of Campus Life and Greek adviser, is also proud of Hurst and the SAE chapter.

“It’s a reflection of the type of students joining [Greek organizations] at the university,” she said. “We’ve got a good program going.”

And, considering the number of U of L’s Greek organizations that have earned national honors recently, Burke appears to be right:
