So … you don’t really care about basketball?

Do what? This is March and we’re in Kentucky. As the Cardinals advance in the NCAA tournament, some who are concerned for the well-being of our university are probably a bit distraught that more students are watching the tournament than voting in the SGA elections.

However, even if you hate basketball and wish that ESPN was no more, the following that the U of L Cardinals enjoy is something to be recognized. With one of the more loyal student fan bases in the nation, Louisville Cardinal basketball is one of the biggest connections that our university has with the community.

Granted, the university would probably benefit from turning its head slightly further toward academics and away from athletics. However, it’s important to have school spirit, especially at a university of more than 22,000 students who both fund and benefit from Cardinal sports, whether they like it or not.

So whether you bleed red or you would rather be watching the History Channel, remember that the Cardinals bring a great deal of money and attention to U of L, and their success is for the good of the university. So send the Card’s your prayers, positive vibes and good wishes. If you don’t go in for praying, use whatever mojo or gris gris works for you.
