Lady Cards blast Mastodons back to Ice Age, 104-56By Pk Bartley

For their first home game of the season, the Lady Cards wanted to make an impression. Though they started off cold, Louisville eventually blasted the IPFW Mastodons back to the Ice Age with a score of 104-56.

Louisville started out the game a little sloppy against Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne. U of L missed their first three shots and the game remained close for about the first five minutes. Then with the score tied at 9, junior guard Sara Nord hit a three-pointer to put U of L up 12-9. U of L never trailed after that. After Nord’s trey Louisville got on a roll from beyond the arc hitting seven three-pointers in the first half.

Freshman guard Connie Neal hit three of her four threes she took in the first half. Neal had 12 points for the game. The Lady Cards had 16 points from their bench in the first half. They also got 15 points off of turnovers in the first half.

Sophomore guard Angel Bradley led the Lady Cards in scoring with 18 points. “We all need to do our part,” said Bradley, “no matter if it is a steal here or a three-pointer there or a charge, whatever it is, we all just need to do our part to help the team.”

The half ended with the score being 57-34.

In the second half, Louisville played even better, especially defensively holding the Mastodons to 26 percent field goal shooting, and only eight percent shooting behind the three-point line.

The Lady Cards also dominated the glass, out rebounding IPFW 54-32 for the game.

U of L was also able to get 10 steals in the game, which led to 10 fast break points.

U of L had five players in double figures led by Bradley who had 18 points.

Nord had one of her typically great games with 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Freshman Connie Neal had 12 points, four assists and no turnovers. Seniro Amanda Wolke finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Nina Simotes scored 17 points as well.

Senior forward Kassidi Bishop got her first career start and played 29 minutes.

This win improves U of L’s record to 2-2.

The team’s next game is Sunday at home against Tennessee Chattanooga at 2pm.
