Blatant hypocrisy

For as long as anyone can remember, African Americans have been a solid Democrat constituency. Last week Third District challenger Jack Conway brought the ultra-liberal (and black) Representative Charles Rangel of New York in to Louisville to campaign for him. That Rangel would come and campaign for Conway is no surprise, he only cares about winning a Democratic majority so he can be chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. But Rangel blistered incumbent Anne Northup while he was in town. Accusing black ministers who chose to support Northup of betraying their people he said “There are some ministers who understand 30 pieces of silver.” This was quite obviously a reference to the payment Judas received in the New Testament for betraying Jesus Christ. Rangel went on to call for a strong voter turnout in the black community. They should turn out in force to honor the memory of those who died or suffered fighting for civil rights and voting rights in the 1960s and those whose votes were not counted in Florida during the 2000 presidential election. First of all, there is no evidence whatsoever that anyone’s vote was not counted during the 2000 election, but also, what do Anne Northup and Jack Conway have to do with the civil rights battles of the 1960s? The answer is nothing.

This is black leadership in America today. The so-called “leaders” of the civil rights movement are nothing more than DNC toys. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP, and Rangel all claim to be fighting for civil rights, but instead, they’re attempting to scare the African American community into voting for Democrats by screaming racism at every turn. Right now, both the Secretary of State and the National Security Advisor of the United States are black. However, rather than applauding President Bush; Jackson, Sharpton, and the rest of the so-called black leadership in America can only cry that Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice are simply “house slaves” to the Bush Administration.

The blatant hypocrisy of the Democratic Party leadership is amazing. They claim to be the only friend of the black community; however it’s obvious that they simply use them and lose them. In the gubernatorial elections in New York, the first black candidate ever, Carl McCall, was simply abandoned by his party (the Democrats of course) the very minute he fell behind incumbent George Pataki in the polls. DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe had promised McCall $500,000; instead, he tried to stiff McCall on the last half of that payment. Only when McCall went public did McAuliffe come up with the money. Carl McCall was handpicked to run for governor, in fact, former president Bill Clinton asked a former aide, Andrew Cuomo, to step aside so McCall could cakewalk through the primary.

I think it’s pretty clear that Jack Conway will say absolutely anything to win this election. Conway has claimed to be “centrist” and a Democrat that will “cross party lines.” Then he brought two of the most liberal, most partisan men in Washington to Louisville to campaign for him. The interesting thing here is that The Louisville Defender, an African American newspaper in Louisville, actually endorsed Anne Northup. Not only did the Defender endorse Northup, but she also has the support of several of the large, predominately black churches in Louisville such as St. Steven Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, and the Reverends Kevin Cosby and H.M Humphrey. This is somewhat amazing considering that Conway, Rangel, and Reverend C. Mackey Daniels claim that they are “tired of Anne Northup, with her unethical practices. She has used the black church as a platform and then lied.” The fact that Jack Conway seems to believe that Anne Northup has “used” the black church and lied to their people is seems all the more ridiculous when you find out that Northup actually has two adopted black children. The blatant hypocrisy of Jack Conway and all Democrats as far as the black community is concerned continues to amaze me. Obviously the Democratic Party leadership feels that most black voters are simply not smart enough to grasp real issues.
