The Brothers of Beta Theta Pi won the Sisson award at their 163rd General Convention Recognition Banquet on August 10, 2002, in Kansas City, MO.

This award, which was named after the late Francis Sisson, honors chapters for immense performance and individuals for exceptional service. The prestigious award requires that 17 criteria be met to a high degree.

The award has been around for about 20 years, and the Louisville Delta Pi chapter has won this award 9 times, making them part of an elite group of chapters to win such an award. There are only 11 out of 123 chapters that have 9 or more Sisson awards.

Some of the 17 criterion needed to win the award are Scholarship, Community Service, Campus Involvement, and Alumni Relations. Beta Theta Pi’s Scholarship was based on the spring semester of one year in addition to the fall semester of the following year. The fraternity’s grade point average must be above that of all males on campus, and all fraternities.

For Community Service, Delta Pi raised $128,000 for the Coaches vs. Cancer organization, and for Campus Involvement, every member of Delta Pi chapter is involved in other organizations outside of Beta Theta Pi. The men of Beta Theta Pi also re-emphasized the Pledge Education Program called the Men of Principle (1839), which emphasizes a no-hazing policy.

For Alumni Relations, the fraternity held a 30th anniversary banquet for the alumni, where officers from their national organization, the General Assembly, came to speak. For more information on Beta Theta Pi, log on to www.betathetapi.org.
