The Corner Market: A tasty college treat

Nestled in downtown Louisville, on the corner of First and Oak Streets, is a unique and pleasant establishment. The Corner Café, which has been open for 8 months, offers customers an all-natural grocery store, unique eats and treats, pottery, jewelry, and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere close to campus.

The Student Orientation Staff visited the establishment earlier this summer, and came back with rave reviews about the food. Customers can indulge in the Corner Market’s wide selection of deli-style sandwiches, specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, and a changing menu of gourmet entrees. Some gourmet items include chicken satay, vegetarian lasagna, Asian slaw, Thai noodles with peanut sauce, couscous and many more. Coffee, espresso, a sushi bar, and a wide variety of tasty baked goods are also available.

Students looking for a hearty and healthy breakfast should not miss out on the weekend omelet bar. You can choose the ingredients or indulge in omelets on the menu such as the Southwestern, which is made with sautéed peppers, onions, ham, and salsa, or the Veggie, made with fresh seasonal vegetables. Waffles, bacon, scones, and other breakfast items are also available on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. They keep the omelet bar open late so late risers can have their fill.

The grocery portion of the store offers a wide selection of healthy and natural foods, beverages, and other goods. This offers college students a radical change from the quick-fix processed foods consumed by most young adults. Many items carried within the store are not available in a regular grocery store, so it’s worth it to check out the market’s selection. Not only is the food delicious, but the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service cannot be beat. Music plays, the décor is great, and you can make yourself feel right at home. The store is great place for students to hang out, study, or de-stress. You can visit the folks at the Corner Market Tuesday through Friday 10a.m. – 7p.m., Saturday 10a.m. – 5p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It’s a short trek from campus; just look for 1160 S. First Street. Give them a call to order in advance, or find out what they are all about at (502) 584-4020. They’ll welcome you with a smile, and you’ll be sure to leave with one.
