Attention Freshmen!
Welcome, class of 2006! You are about to embark on an adventurous journey that should prove to be a great success and the time of your life. The next four years will be full of homework, parties, work, work, and more work. It will be a great challenge for many of you, but as Editor-in-Chief of The Louisville Cardinal, I encourage each and every one of you to get involved. It will make your college experience much more enjoyable and help relieve the overwhelming stress of classes.
As the new “blood,” it is your job to aid this university in the unity of all students, faculty and staff on this campus. This university has seen its share of racial issues. We are all part of the University of Louisville and everyone should be treated with the same amount of respect.
This may not seem like a big deal to you now, but it could be a potential concern in a matter of months. We need your help. You can aid in the integration process in a many ways, but you must be willing to get involved.
Participation is the key. Join an active campus organization, one that stands up for the rights of the student.
It is up to you, the incoming freshman class, to shoulder the burden of eliminating racial tension among the students, faculty and staff.
Your next step in unifying this campus is to accept others for who they are. We all learned in elementary school that each person is a unique individual. This is something that you should continue to think about and practice throughout your lives.
Educating yourselves is another key element in bringing the U of L community together. Learning about different ethnic groups and what they have to offer will allow you to be more open-minded and willing to hear the voices of other human beings.
The University of Louisville is your new family for the next four years or more. Do your part to make everyone feel welcome in their new home.
