In today’s society it is very common for young adults to attend college in search of a career path. However, when a student steps onto a college campus, there is no guarantee he or she will find a desired career field right away. In fact, many students find themselves unable to decide on a single area of study all the way until their junior year of college.

U of L offers services to students struggling with a career choice. The University of Louisville Career Center offers 20 primary career services to students and alumni and employers to assist them to meet their recruitment and employment needs.

“Students can come in to explore career interests, decide on career majors, identify job opportunities, learn to prepare a resume, videotape a practice interview and learn to conduct a successful job search,” said Debra Mayberry, assistant director of the Career Center.

Students who are undecided in a major or who just need career assistance have the opportunity to meet with a career counselor on a walk in basis or by appointment. Other services include career planning tests, which are offered online or in the Career Center. These tests locate career areas of the most interest and skill for the student. Students can use online career services resources 24 hours a day free of charge.

The Career Center offers four types of job opportunities as well. Employment services include student employment, A & S co-op, federal work study jobs and full time professional jobs for graduate student and alumni.

“We encourage all students to use the Career Center from freshman to senior year,” Mayberry said.

Career Center online services can be accessed at career.louisville.edu. The center is located on the third level of the SAC.
