It's the most wonderful time of the year! Well, not what you think but it's what some consider the best month of the year. It is once again time for March Madness. Now, I could do my best to breakdown the tournament and the last four in and last four out, but the fact is all we really care about are our Cardinals.

Restructured student loans to save money

2009-03-10T00:00:00-04:00March 10th, 2009|Uncategorized|

The University of Louisville has decided to make changes to the current loan process for students and their parents when applying for loans.  This decision will not only simplify the loan process, but more importantly save money for students and their families.
Effective the fall semester 2009, U of L will be offering the usual Stafford and PLUS loans funded by the Federal Direct Loan Program, which the U.S. Department of Education acts as the lender.  Currently these loans are offered through lenders in the Federal Family Education Loan Program, FFELP, according to the financial aid office. The FFELP has several lenders, and some students had to switch lenders when preparing for the current school year because their lenders dropped from the FFELP program or discontinued making loans for a period of time because of the credit situation.

Caps approved for
2009-10 tuition

Thanks to a unanimous vote by the Council on Postsecondary Education Friday, tuition increases will be capped, remaining at or below 5 percent at Kentucky's public universities for the 2009-10 year, according to the Courier Journal.
The University of Louisville and UK will be required to set caps on tuition and fee increases that are about half of this year's increase. The tuition was raised for both schools last year by 9 percent.  With this cap, the increase for undergraduate, in-state students can be no more than five percent or $380 at U of L and $387 to $398 at UK.

Math lecturer to speak about number patterns

Dr. Quinn is coming to the University of Louisville – and not the Medicine Woman, this Dr. Quinn calls herself the "Mathematics Woman."
Dr. Jennifer Quinn, former executive director of the Association for Women in Mathematics, will be discussing the "Fibonacci Fascination" March 26 at 6 p.m. in Strickler 101. Students, faculty share fresh ideas for fresh food

While efforts have been made to increase the variety of food options on the University of Louisville campus in the past year, it is clear that a nutritional deficit still persists within these expanded food options.
New restaurant options like "Freshens" and "Jazzman's" may offer some healthier options, but fast food still has a much larger presence on campus. "Quick Zone" may carry salads, but by Sunday afternoon there are only a handful left, and these are no longer fresh.

‘Childs’ Play

The University of Louisville Men's Tennis team is off to one of its best starts in recent school history. One of the major reasons is because of the sophomore duo of Austen Childs and Simon Childs. Austen and Simon are also roommates, not to mention the number six ranked doubles team in the country. One thing the Childs duo is not: brothers.

Students respond to SGA elections

The results are unofficial at this time, due to up-coming runoffs between candidates for SGA President, SGA Services Vice President and Speed school senators.
The Student Government Association election had a record turn out this year, with a total of 3,050 votes. There were 64 total candidates running for various positions and close calls provoked two runoffs for SGA Services Vice President and Speed school senators.
University of Louisville students around campus had different reasons for voting, but all agreed students must vote to get their voices heard on various issues.
