Say goodbye to the sand between your toes, tan lines and carefree days. As much as we all dread it, it is time to face reality and get our focus back on school work.

It is that time of the year that you can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel and everything is in full gear. Since we have practically already gotten two spring breaks due to the snowpocalypse we experienced, it is now crunch time for this spring semester. Many assignments and exams were pushed back to the week following spring break. But is it right that students are expected to do school work over spring break?

“The week following spring break is pretty awful,” junior Morgan Martin said. “Everyone is recovering from traveling long hours and unpacking while overloaded with school work to catch up on. I will never understand why teachers think it’s a great idea to schedule all exams and assignments the week after spring break.”

Isn’t the whole idea behind spring break that college students actually get a break from all of the school work? It doesn’t seem that way at U of L. Many students have the busiest weeks of their academic schedule the week following spring break.

“One of my professors told us that we had all of spring break to work on our projects and that we were expected to utilize that time to do so,” junior Abi Roney said. “I was gone on vacation all spring break with no access to a computer or internet.”

Students shouldn’t be expected to use their time given off of school to do even more work for their classes. College students need a break in order to stay motivated in their studies. Spring break memories with friends are times many college students cherish forever so they should not have to be completely sacrificed for school work during a break.
