The Speed Art Museum, the longstanding art museum located on UofL’s Belknap campus, has initiated construction on its new art park and plaza, the ‘Speed Outdoors‘.

The 3-acre art park is slated to open in 2025, and will feature 150 native trees and 13 contemporary sculptures.

The project will also bring new green space to the area and will be open 365 days a year.

The new art park will occupy the space north of the Ekstrom library, between the museum and its adjacent parking garage.

From now until the project’s completion, students and staff walking will have to detour around the rear of the Speed’s parking garage as construction takes place outside the museum.
