Louisville (5-6, 1-5) fell short against Duke (7-5, 3-1) in today’s matchup at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Blue Devils have a history of being tough competitors for the Cards.

The doubles point was up for grabs with Louisville taking over court two and Duke taking over court one.

Senior Tin Chen and junior Sergio Hernandez started the match off in favor of the Cards with a swift 6-1 win over Duke’s Edu Guell and Luca Keist.

Duke evened the playing field as No. 55 Sean Sculley and Garrett Johns (DU) defeated junior Fabien Salle and sophomore Matthew Fung 6-3.

The pressure was on court three to secure the doubles point, but juniors Josh Howard-Tripp and Alex Wesbrooks came up just short in the tiebreaker.

Wesbrooks was the first to finish his singles match and suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss. It appeared as though he was dealing with a back injury.

Mizrahi worked hard to turn his match around, but ultimately fell 6-2, 7-5 to Keist (DU).

Louisville tallied their only point of the match when Hernandez defeated Guell (DU) 6-1, 7-5.

Duke clinched the match with a win on court four.

Howard-Tripp fell 7-5, 6-1 to Zhang (DU).

No. 71 Chen split sets and was up 5-4 in the second against Johns (DU) when the match was clinched.

Salle was up 5-4 in the second set against Sculley (DU), but his match was left unfinished as well.

Men’s tennis is back in action next weekend as they travel to play Middle Tennessee on Friday, March 12 at 5 p.m. at the Adams Tennis Center.
