The University of Louisville announced a partnership with Cardinal Health providing employment opportunities for students.

According to U of L Director of Media Relations John Karman, the pilot program started in 2017.

Cardinal Health first approached the university about the potential partnership with the goal of providing work experience in the medical field. The pilot program originally had less than 10 students. Now the number of students has risen to 46 with the goal of 100 students by the end of the year.

The Cardinal Health program is known as “Launch,” and is a customer service center on Belknap Campus. Cardinal Health currently has a five-year lease with the U of L Foundation for their Launch space on the third floor of the Cardinal Station on Central Avenue.

Cardinal Health is based out of Dublin, Ohio. According to their website, “Cardinal Health is a global, integrated health care services and products company, providing customized solutions for hospitals, health systems, pharmacies, ambulatory surgery centers, clinical laboratories and physician offices worldwide.”

President Neeli Bendapudi said, “This partnership is a tremendous benefit for our students. Not only does it create flexible, meaningful employment, but it provides our students a great opportunity to work with a leader in the health care industry without leaving our campus.”

They have 50 students currently employed with plans to add more spots. Students working at Launch will gain experience in customer service in the health care industry, market research, data and analytics assistance and other opportunities such as working on strategic projects.
