In response to the denial of an indictment by the Saint Louis Grand Jury in the Ferguson, Mo. police shooting, the Vice Provost for Diversity and International Affairs, Mordean Taylor-Archer, quickly sent out a message to students. The message urged people at he university to promote diversity and social justice.

The news out of Ferguson, Missouri, has been controversial and emotional. We understand that today’s grand jury decision may be disturbing to some on our campus. To that end, the Cultural Center on the Belknap campus will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. as will the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice (room 280, Ekstrom library) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for support and discussion about how to constructively move forward as a community.”

The announcement caused protests across the country.  The officer involved, Darren Wilson, resigned from the police department.
