Leadership Louisville has lined up three impressive, dynamic women as keynote speakers for its 100 Wise Women series. This unique and lively forum connects emerging women leaders with experienced, successful women, and it has been well-received. Since the series started in 2007, every event has sold out.

The forum is lead by a presentation by a female leader, and followed by group conversations with tables of young women, who are paired with one of 100 wise women chosen by Leadership Louisville to participate in the events throughout the year. The conversations center around the presentation of the day and allow the women to foster a comfortable, mentoring relationship.

The speakers and dates will be:

? Captain Karen Lee, Director of Airline Safety, UPS Airlines, May 20
? Dr. Judy Green, Councilwoman, Louisville Metro Council, September 23
? Maria Hampton, Vice President and Senior Branch Executive, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Louisville Branch, November 18

All presentations will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the University Club on the campus of  University of Louisville. Tickets for the event are $25, payable by credit card on the Leadership Louisville’s web site, www.leadershiplouisville.org. Also, at each event, 20 students tickets are available for $15 each on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is presented by Ernst & Young, Today’s Woman and Leadership Louisville.
Reservations are now being accepted for the May 20 presentation by Capt. Karen Lee. She is considered a pioneer in the aviation industry, and has received national recognition for her pioneering work for UPS. The National Aeronautic Association presented Capt. Lee with its Katharine Wright Award for “her steadfast vision in pioneering UPS Airlines’ leading, globally recognized, research and implementation of ADS-B technology that is transforming the national air transportation system.” The award is presented annually to a woman who has contributed to the success of others, or made a personal contribution to the advancement of the art, sport and science of aviation and space flight over an extended period of time. The award was named in honor of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s sister, Katharine. She used money from teaching to purchase supplies for her brothers’ experiments, nursed Orville back to health after he crashed in Fort Myer, Virginia, contributed ideas to their experiments and trials and acted as a public figure to endorse the safety of flying and the Wrights’ aircraft.
Captain Lee joined UPS in 1987, and later was promoted to several different management positions. She is currently director of operations for the UPS airline, the ninth largest airline in the world. In this role, Karen was responsible for UPS efforts in implementing ADS-B technology, a program that recently achieved aviation’s highest honor – the Collier Trophy.
