May 13 to be U of L Night at Slugger Field

May 13 has been designated U of L Night at Slugger Field.

University of Louisville alumni, students, faculty, staff andfriends will watch the Louisville Bats take on the Toledo Mud Hensfrom a special reserved section.

The Cardinal Bird, U of L Dance Team and Senior Birds will be onhand.

Tickets are $5 each and are available from the AlumniAssociation at 502-852-8800. The gate opens at 5:30 p.m. Game timeis 7:15 p.m.

 

Alumni Association sponsors rafting trip

University of Louisville students, alumni, faculty, staff andfriends can get together in June for a white-water rafting trip toWest Virginia.

The U of L Alumni Association has contracted with Ace Rafts foran overnight trip and adventure down the New River Gorge NationalRiver, the world’s second oldest river canyon. The riverfeatures more than 20 rapids.

Rafters will leave from U of L at 5:30 p.m., Friday, June 18 fora bus ride to New River Gorge, W.Va. They will leave West Virginiafor the return trip at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 19.

Cost for the trip is $150 per person and includes hotel, raftingand transportation. For more information, or to reserve a spot,call the U of L Alumni Association at 502-852-6186.

 

Transit Authority of River City, Union win U of Laward

The Transit Authority of River City and Amalgamated TransitUnion Local Union No. 1447 have won the 11th annuallabor-management award from the University of LouisvilleLabor-Management Center.

The award honors a Kentucky or southern Indiana workplace wheremanagement and labor have shown and promoted positive cooperativerelations.

Within the last year, TARC’s union and management haveadopted a statement of shared values that represents the corebeliefs of all the organization’s team members and reinforcesthe strong labor-management relationship. From these sharedbeliefs, labor and management have developed more collaborativeactivities, including a joint discipline code review committee anda job shadowing program. They also have developed “Meet onCommon Ground,” small group discussions co-facilitated byunion and non-union employees in which team members discuss issuessuch as leadership principles and challenges and ways to promoterespect in the workplace.

The other finalist for this year’s award was United ParcelService Air District Louisville and International Brotherhood ofTeamsters Local Union No. 89 in Louisville.
