On Oct. 26, University of Louisville students, faculty and staff bunkered down as a tornado warning was issued and winds in excess of 60 miles per hour came through Jefferson County. People on campus followed emergency procedures after the university sent out an emergency alert at 11:30 a.m.

“We were in class and the phone started ringing,” said Logan Griggs, a senior psychology major. “Our professor said there was an emergency and he released us.”

Each building on the Belknap campus is equipped with its own emergency response procedures.

“When I get a text, it’s my job to get people to safety,” said Amy Purcell, the associate curator of special collections in the Ekstrom Library. “There are people stationed in every building for this kind of thing.”

The alert expired at 12 p.m.
