Being a college student at the University of Louisville comes with many perks. One of those perks is meeting new people and being able to watch college sports games and professional games with these new friends that you make along the journey through college. The Student Activities Center has a variety of places where students can grab a bite to eat and catch a game in the television lounge. Papa John’s, in particular, stays open until 11 p.m.
The newest addition to the SAC is Damon’s Grill, which has become very popular amongst the students. With multiple flat screen TVs mounted to the walls, and an expansive menu, it’s easy to see why it’s a popular hangout to watch the games.
“The food at Damon’s is good and they have a good amount of TVs,” said Steven Robertson, a junior finance major.
“I like the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and the cheese in the cup,” said Taylor Fulkerson, a freshman health and human performance major.
With everything from soft pretzel sticks to double chocolate mousse pie, appetizers and desserts are favorite choices for students watching games. Damon’s Grill is open until 10 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 p.m. on Sundays. They also have special Game Watch Parties for certain sporting events.
Fulkerson and his friends watch many games in their dorm, Miller Hall. But they have to make do without a decent TV lounge in Miller.
“We don’t have a specific TV lounge in Miller,” said Fulkerson. “I have a TV in the room, so we watch the games there. But anytime we can go to the SAC and watch, then we do that.”
Drew Monarch, a freshman physics major, stays in his dorm, Unitas Tower, to watch games. He watches several games a week in the TV lounge in the Unitas basement. He enjoys the camaraderie and the atmosphere.
“It’s like a family,” said Monarch. “You’re around a lot of friends. There are always one or two people that you have to argue with. It’s a lot of fun.”
