The newly released FUNcard allows U of L students to be rewarded for participating in student activities. The more Student Activity Board (SAB) functions students attend with their FUNcard, the greater their chances are of winning prizes from local businesses.

“We are always trying new ideas to get students to come out to events. I believe that this will be one of the more effective ones,” said Sabrina Casanova, who is on the SAB’s marketing committee. Every SAB-sponsored event, meeting or movie that a student attends allows students to earn one stamp on their FUNcard. After ten stamps, students turn their card in for the prize drawing and receive a new card. “The more cards they turn in, the better chance they have to win,” said Jennifer Clark, promotion chair on the board. “We hope to build excitement on campus about student activities with this event.”

Casanova says she already sees more students attending because of the FUNcard. “I have seen an increase in student attendance at our events since the FUNcard. I’m sure once the word gets out about it, we will get even more students to come out to events,” she said.

The FUNcard has five different sponsors this month. Students have the chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Barnes and Noble, $250 from Actors Theatre and Heine Brothers, $50 from Smoothie King and the Summit, and a $25 certificate from Subway.

“The big drawings will be held at Wild Wild Spring Fest on April 13th,” Clark said. “The first 50 people to turn in cards are getting T-shirts.”

Lists of SAB-sponsored events can be found just about anywhere on campus. “We randomly hand these out on campus every week. There are also calendars in the SGA office and on the walls of the Student Activities Center,” said Clark. “We also just finished a banner that will be hung up at events that says, ‘Get your FUNcard stamped here.'”

Students can pick up a FUNcard at any SAB event or in the SGA office located in room W301 in the Student Activities Center.
