Program helps commuters feel at home

Commuter Student Services, located in room 105 of Davidson Hall, is set up to service the needs of the 17,000 students who commute to the University of Louisville everyday. The facility offers a computer lab, a lounge with sofas and a TV, and tables for studying or eating.

American culture has an obsession with celebrities. It's not anything new, and it's not going away. I suppose it's only natural, as these people bring to life the characters and songs and ideas that we enjoy so much; in short, they entertain us. Celebrity news has never caught my fancy, but I wouldn't begrudge others their interests; I watch grown men in matching uniforms and count the number of times they can successfully throw a rubber ball through an orange hoop.

Intramural basketball tips off

Intramural basketball is yet another thriving activity "happening" at the University of Louisville. The number of teams has jumped from 73 last spring to 87, even better than the improvement of only three teams in the spring of 2006. While the number of teams is increasing, the intramural department has had difficulty finding referees to officiate all of the games.

It appears we are stuck in a game of "Truth or Dare" with the university, while we wait for them to choose truth instead of playing dare with our futures. Currently, on the heels of the University of Louisville's revealing of a new branding campaign; a hiring freeze, budget cuts and a lack in student morale abound. Years of research and thought have gone into a new motto for U of L: "It's Happening Here." But what is "It," exactly?

The University of Louisville men's tennis team dominated in state rivals Morehead State University and Murray State University in 7-0 wins over both teams last weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. They also took down Big East opponent Marquette University 6-1 Sunday afternoon.

University of Louisville junior swimmer Vali Preda made a New Year's Resolution to be more dedicated to swimming. That could spell bad news for the rest of the country. Preda, a three time All-American and 2008 Olympic qualifier, felt he needed to become more focused after not swimming up to his expectations at the beginning of the season.
