Four years ago when I first stepped foot on the University of Louisville campus, I'll never forget that ball of apprehension lodged into the pit of my stomach.
Attention orientation students: although Wendy's, Papa John's, and Subway may be the only food options open during your stay, they are by no means the only ones offered by the university.
?The University of Louisville's annual Red-White Spring Game showed extreme promise on offense and a little more of the same on defense. With a balanced offense that committed no turnovers and an improving defense that created five sacks, the Cardinals gained a lot at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in front of a faithful crowd of 17,200.
University of Louisville junior rower Mallory Hamman is the type of athlete most coaches would want on their team. Each year, she finds ways to improve from the year before. "She's a great team player," Laura Fogt, varsity rowing coach, said. "She's the stroke of our varsity eight right now.
Each time it rains hard, Threlkeld Hall resident Luke Spicer needs to carry an umbrella both indoors as well as outdoors. According to Spicer, bad weather causes leakage in Threlkeld and garbage cans must be put out to catch the falling water. The same can be said for Unitas Tower, where a leak in the ceiling splashes water down onto a pool table in the building's lobby.
The University of Louisville will play host to opera star, Katherine Rohrer, tonight, at the Margaret Comstock Music Hall. Debuting at Carnegie Hall, Rohrer is a mezzo-soprano and has sung with such opera companies as The San Francisco and the New York City Opera.
Following recent heavy rains and flooding, some University of Louisville residence halls have experienced leaking through the ceilings, while Unitas Tower and Threlkeld Hall specifically, have leaking through their first floor lobbies. As the university strives for an increase in residential life, expanding to include private developers who are not necessarily bogged down with pending legislation, one must question the validity of those efforts.
Being a young adult is a marvelous trait. However, people confuse this stage in life with traits such as invincible, courageous and clever. A student at the University of Louisville may see it safe to wander around campus alone at night without a care in the world.
Ok, not really, but I wanted as many people as possible to read my final column to fill my self esteem needs. Every columnist's final piece always talks about how they got an opportunity to watch some of the greatest sporting events from the best seats in the house.
